Letter From the President
Dear Central Ohio Chapter ASTD Member:
Summer is now officially upon us, and we have so much to look forward to. Last week, I attended the Chapter’s program on Predictive Evaluation by Dave Basarab, author, as he took us step-by-step through his methodology. As a member, you have exclusive opportunities to participate in special interest groups (Forums) that meet your professional development needs, and to participate in programs right here in Central Ohio that are affordable. I encourage you to check out our Chapter’s WebPages for events designed to expand your career growth.

2011 COASTD Workplace Learning & Development Conference
If the numbers of members of who attended the May 23rd meeting to plan the 2011 COASTD WLP Conference is an indicator of success – then the 2011 Conference is going to big a HUGE success.
There was energy and electricity in the room, as a large number of members (new and established) proposed ideas for themes, speakers and “fun” to make this year’s conference – scheduled for October 25th – a spectacular experience.
If you were unable to attend the kick–off meeting, and would like to share your talents as a volunteer, click here for more information.

Tips for Running a Smooth Webinar or Virtual ILT: Lessons learned from a Webinar Gone Awry
By Lisa Ramsey
Did you happen to catch ASTD’s webinar ISD for the Synchronous Environment, presented by Nanette Miner of The Training Doctor?
With over 900 attendees, Nanette’s wonderful presentation on how to create active and engaging virtual training was broadsided by a single attendee who forgot to mute their phone. While Nanette kept the presentation light-hearted, the rest of us were forced to struggle to hear her over personal conversations and loud muzak.
So what you can you do to ensure your virtual training gets off to the right start and stays there?

Why is Orange the New Green?
By John Cassell, O.C. Tanner Company
Orange is a color of transition. And in business, an Orange Revolution is a transformation of a team from good to great. An Orange Revolution in the corporate world is not intended to conquer a regime. Instead, it begins in the hearts of team members - men and women focused on overcoming barriers, exceeding expectations, and producing exceptional results.
The question is: can a 350,000-person study by The Best Companies Group - which issues the Best Places to Work list - prove the idea that a new standard of teamwork can bolster your bottom line? That’s exactly what the authors of New York Times best-selling book, The Orange Revolution, set out to do - prove that by improving your teams, you’ll improve your profits.
