Coaching 101 for Managers: Attendees will become aware of the various coaching skills and specifically “powerful questions.”

Attendees will:

  • Discover which coaching tool they are most like
  • Get a brief overview of twelve coaching tools (visioning, listening, goal setting, requesting action, building rapport, action plan, bottom lining, challenging feedback, clarifying, brainstorming, tracking and reframing)
  • Learn the definition of a “powerful question” and the difference between a “judger question” and a “learner question”
  • Most importantly, practice using “powerful questions” in triads (groups of 3) where they will be the coach, get coached or observe the coach

Attendees will walk away confident in their use of coaching skills and know when, how, and why to apply them in the work environment so employees take more ownership and responsibility for their behavior.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand basic coaching skills and the benefits of each in the work environment
  2. Identify what a powerful question is and learn the benefits of asking powerful questions
  3. Identify situations where coaching can be used to advance the positive outcome desired
